July 15, 2010 - Get That Baseball Body!
Baseball is such a physical game. When the ump shouts, “play ball!” he isn’t kidding! The sport requires skill, strength, and stamina. To knock one out of the park, then round the bases, players must be in top physical condition. How do softball players and amateur and pro baseball players alike improve their game? Here are just a few of the moves they practice during spring training and into the season.

To get the most out of your swing:
• Work that torso. To build momentum when swinging a bat, you have to twist that tummy. Focus on ab exercises during your workout to strengthen your core.
• Pay attention to your deltoids, biceps, triceps, and latissimi dorsi (In English, that means your shoulders, arms, and back). Try front and side lateral raises, hammer curls, and kickbacks with free weights, as well as pull-ups.
To dash around the diamond or chase that fly ball:
• Concentrate on the quads and hamstrings. Squats and lunges will build your leg muscles and make you faster than Babe Ruth. Feel the burn!
• Don’t forget about your calves and that fragile Achilles tendon! Stretch your calves and practice balancing on your tiptoes.
To field a grounder:
• Be quick on your feet. Prep by going through an obstacle course of tires or cones for dexterity.
• Align your hand-eye coordination. Pick up tennis, racquetball, or squash in the off-season or non-game days.
Since both cardio and strength training are vital to making the most out of every inning, you need take care of yourself! Massage your muscles, rest your bones, and most importantly, replenish with NSF Certified BiPro!!
Keep up with these exercises and get the right nutrition from BiPro – Then maybe the next time you find yourself at the plate, you’ll smack a dinger out of the park! Now play ball!
