July 13, 2010 - All Star Nutrition

The 2010 MLB All-Star Game is tonight! I’m most excited about seeing Twins (@MinnesotaTwins) catcher Joe Mauer, who happens to be a hometown hero here in Minnesota – not to mention a cutie patootie!

Joe’s having an awesome season and he earned the MOST VOTES to play in Anaheim, so it’ll be great to see what he can do for the American League team. In a summer of all-star fever, the Minor League Triple-A All-Star game also takes place on Thursday in Pennsylvania. Good luck to those up-and-comers! (BTW- Each of the Minor League All Star Players are receiving a jar of BiPro this week. How exciting! I got the hook-up from Justin Zabrosky, the Philadelphia Phillies Triple A Minor League Athletic Trainer. Thanks Justin!)

You know, the best way to become a top-rated athlete is to train like one! From a solid workout that tones and targets core muscles to eating a diet consistent to a champ, thinking and acting like an all-star is key to success.

If you don’t have access to an MLB trainer, take a look at these tips that’ll get you in gear:
• Eat a little something before taking the field. Carbs keep you energized, fruit keeps your blood sugar from dropping, and protein (say it with me, “whey!!!”) keeps you from getting hungry halfway through the game. (As a side note, stick with foods you know and love. Now is not the time to experiment with something new and exotic that could do a number on you internally!)
• Stretch it out before, during, and after the game. Don’t wait until the seventh inning to reach and expand those muscles. Stay lose and limber and watch out for that fly ball!
• Stay hydrated. Water is always important, but if you’re sweating from playing hard or in hot weather, turn to a sports drink. Those liquids contain electrolytes –sodium, potassium, and chloride – to replenish your body.

Even though it’s baseball season that’s in full swing, adding BiPro to your training routine is a grand slam idea no matter what sport in which you want to excel. I guarantee you – with these suggestions, you’re bound to perform like a pro athlete in no time!

Hugs,
