Swimming – Is there a better way to get in a summer workout? After spending many hours this past stars n’ stripes weekend gettin’ my tan on (Minneapolis was 90 degrees on Sat! YEA!) and my swim on, I decided swimming is my new favorite sport (next to tannin’: this MN Girl enjoys her summer rays…YES I wear SPF thank you very much). Being in the water can be so relaxing and freeing, but it’s also a great opportunity to utilize all your muscles, work your heart and lungs, and build up a sweat! This low-impact exercise involves the entire body, and is an awesome way to keep fit, regardless of your age or fitness level.
Recreational swimming with family and friends is a perfect way to beat the summer heat, and with regular practice, swimmers can build their endurance, enhance their muscle strength, and develop their cardio-vascular fitness. Since swimming has a low-risk of injury, it can be used as part of a cross-training program or used to define muscle tone. All the different swim strokes also give you a chance to focus on certain muscle groups and get a unique workout experience everyday.
