June 22, 2010- Healthy Eating is Part of Working Out

Hey Everyone!
I think it’s high time we address a common misconception when it comes to loosing weight – If I work out, I can eat whatever I want. Ummm… not so fast. A healthy diet is essential to any fitness plan. For example, during a recent business trip I found myself sucked in to an infomercial on the workout program, P90X. If you’re not familiar with this product, it’s basically a 90 day workout program that’s DVD based and promises great results in that amount of time.

As I was watching the promotional show, I initially figured it was just another exercise infomercial like the old “Belly Buster” and “Thigh Master” commercials that used to run years ago. (Just in case you forgot, here’s a little reminder- Suzanne Somers was rockin’ in the 90s!)

Aaannnyways, as the show went on, they discussed two topics that caught my attention: Muscle confusion and diet. When they started talking about these things, I really began listening because what’s the sense in working out for an hour or and hour and a half if you’re just going to end up in the drive thru lane at McDonald’s right after?

Ask any respectable fitness expert or personal trainer and they’ll tell you your chances of reaching your goals are multiplied exponentially when you consider the contents of the food you’re eating. Ever heard the phrase, “90% of working out is eating right”???

While I appreciate the training and dietary information that the infomercial provided, it won’t surprise you to learn I part ways with the protein drink that they sell/endorse. It contains too many “man made” products and sugar and not enough real protein. So remember, put the right fuel in your body before and after you workout, and you’ll see results even faster!

Hugs,
